Joyce Smith Anderson, 86, of Greensboro, NC, native of Moore County passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 at Peak Resources – Pinelake Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Carthage, NC.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 1:00PM at West End Cemetery, with Pastor Jimmy Jones officiating.
Joyce was born December 1, 1936 in Moore County, to the late Carlton Richard Smith and Lou Etta Blake Smith.
Joyce was a very talented seamstress. She sewed for numerous individuals and businesses, such as the Globe Trotters Basketball Team, and made an evening gown worn by Miss USA contestant (cousin: Rhonda Nobels, 1986 Miss North Carolina USA). She was actively (2023) using her talent to make numerous baby and lap quilts that were donated to First Presbyterian Church Community Services Group, which assists the community in providing quilts to teen pregnancy and nursing home facilities. She had been donating these quilts for at least 12 years. She was a member of Rocky Knoll Baptist Church, now known as Restoration at The Rock. She was also an avid gardener (vegetables and flowers) as well as an UNC Tarheel Fan!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter Cathy Evans and son-in-law Kenneth Evans.
She is survived by her daughters, Elaine Evans, Vivian Diggs (Bruce Allen Diggs), Martha Turner, and Wanda Ellis (Cliff); grandchildren, Jason Evans, Marie Bridges, James Diggs, Tina Jackson, Brandi Beddingfield, Jeremy Owens, Jacob Owens, and Laura Brown, 16 great-grandchildren, and currently one on the way, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Gretchen Crabtree (Mike) and brothers, C.R. Smith (Doris) and Kenneth Smith (Jill).
