Kenneth Eugene Layton, age 84, of Carthage, died Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
It was Ken’s request that he be bequeathed to UNC Medical School and no services to be held.
A native Guilford County he was a son of the late Thomas Edmund and Alvis (Jones) Layton. Ken started working with his father when he was nine years old, delivering ice. After high school he worked as a bank teller for 10 years. He graduated from Guilford College and began his 30 year teaching career where he taught english to hundreds of students at Union Pines High School.
Ken was a published author, an award winning poet, a gourmet chef, a trivia buff and animal lover.
He was preceded in death by his wife Glenda Layton; brothers Bill Reynolds, Jim Layton, Richard Reynolds and Kerry Layton.
He is survived by his daughter, Juliet Layton Moran and husband Patrick of Carthage; step daughter Vanise Goodnight of Lexington; step-son Craig Goodnight of Carthage; sisters Laurie Dixon of Oak Island, Roberta Kay Layton of Greensboro brother David Layton; grandchildren Madelyn and Jonah King and many nieces and nephews.
