Obituary for Larry Samuel Cook of Vass

Larry Samuel Cook, age 83, of Vass, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Vass United Methodist Church in Vass at 4:00PM with Pastors Larry Vacek and John Brown officiating.  A time of visitation will be held immediately following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.

Larry was born in Harnett County on June 21, 1941 to the late Benjamin Samuel and Louise Avery Cook. 

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Sophia Oldham Cook; daughter, Laura Cook White and her husband, John White of Pinehurst; grandson, Davis White; brother, Jimmy Cook and his wife Trisha Cook of Sanford; sister, Judy Moody and her husband, Ted Moody of Lincolnton; Aunt, Janice Autry and her husband Jerry of Keller, Texas and lots of cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was self-employed in sales for McKee Foods for 30 plus years and was known as “The Little Debbie Man”.  His wife, Sophia worked alongside him throughout his career and they could be seen daily working together stocking shelves in Walmart.

Larry never met a stranger.  He loved his family and friends and had a great sense of humor.  In his healthier years, he enjoyed fishing trips, the beach, the mountains, camping and NASCAR.  In his younger days, he enjoyed racing midget cars and had a fondness for sports cars.  He was a member of Vass United Methodist Church.  He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vass United Methodist Church or Open Arms Community Church in Vass.
