obituary Omega Elliott Whitaker Dowdy

Omega Elliott Whitaker Dowdy was born on December 8, 1931 in Moore County to the late Gentry Elliott and Maude Ferguson Elliott. On Wednesday morning, June 24, 2020, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst NC, she peacefully entered eternal rest as her Heavenly Father called her home.

Her husband, Robert Dowdy and Forrest Whitaker, her daughter, Pamela Theresa Whitaker, and her brother, George Elliott, preceded in death.

She graduated from Pinckney High School, Carthage NC in 1949 and attended Barber Scotia College in Concord, North Carolina. She worked many years for the Johnson family and later retired from the Town of Carthage.

Omega accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a very early age. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion AME Zion Church until her health failed. She loved the church and faithfully served in various capacities including: Usher and Trustee Boards, Steward and Stewardess Board, Missionary Board, Sunday School Teacher, and Honorary choir member.

Omega leaves to cherish her memory, one brother, Robert Lee Elliott of Cameron, NC; “My Girls”: Linda Gore (Ralph), Carthage NC; Frances Gilmore (Ben), Carthage NC; Carrie Foxx (Paul), High Falls, NC; Rhonda Dowdy, Carthage, NC.  “My Boys”: Robert Whitaker (Brenda), Carthage, NC; Gerald Dowdy (Cassandra), Carthage NC, and Herald Dowdy of the home. Sister-in-law, Beverly Millard, Philadelphia, PA; Brother-in-law, Earl Whitaker, Santa Ana, CA; Aunt, Emma Thomas, Southern Pines; Special cousins, Dorothy Atkins, Carthage NC; Clarissa Hall, Fayetteville, NC; Mary Dowdy, Southern Pines NC. Twelve grandchildren, Twenty-three great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and her Mt. Zion Church family.
 
Private Funeral Services: 11AM Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Mount Zion AME Zion Church in Carthage. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
