Kimberly Caprice Ormand-Craig, 51, passed away at her Laurinburg home on December 1, 2017 of complications from a recent illness.

A memorial service will be held by the family at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Faith Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Jeff Mercer.  Inurnment will follow in the church Columbarium.

Kimberly was born on March 18, 1966 in Laurinburg.  She leaves behind her husband, Cary Craig, and their son, Zane; her parents, Ben and Donna Ormand of Laurinburg; her brothers Mitch (Kristi) Ormand and Ben (Tanya) Ormand of Charlotte; her niece Katie Ormand; nephews Jack and Robby Ormand; cats Bella, Luna, and Salem; and dog Daisy.

Kimberly graduated Scotland High School in 1984 and went on to earn her Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts in 1986 from Brevard College, where she was given the Presidential Award. She continued her education at The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she earned a B.A. in English in 1991.  She later earned her Secondary English/Language Arts and English as a Second Language teaching certifications.

Her passion for writing and the English language led to an eighteen-year career as a teacher, and her students affectionately called her “Ms. O-C.”  She taught in middle and high schools in Charlotte, Kannapolis, Rockingham, and Fayetteville. While in Charlotte, she won the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year Award.  At her passing, she was a fifth-grade teacher at Aberdeen Elementary School.

Visitation will be at McDougald Funeral Home in Laurinburg on Monday, December 4 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
