One transported, charges pending after head-on collision in Aberdeen

One person received medical care at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries after a pickup truck and SUV collided head-on on Highway 5 near the intersection with Greer Drive in Aberdeen.

Authorities said the crash occurred just before 8 p.m. Tuesday when a Chevy Colorado pickup truck, headed toward Pinehurst on Highway 5, crossed the center line and slammed into a Ford Bronco head-on.

The driver of the Ford went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevy was not injured.

The Aberdeen Police Department is investigating the wreck and told Sandhills Sentinel on scene that charges are pending.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage to their front ends and blocked the roadway. It took towing crews nearly 20 minutes to get the two vehicles pulled apart due to the force of the impact and the extent of the damage. Highway 5 was shut down in both directions, and traffic was rerouted while emergency crews worked.
