During the first two weeks of the school year, Moore County deputies and state troopers partnered throughout Moore County to promote safe driving and improve safety in and around our school zones during one of the busiest and most challenging times of the school year.
The agencies conducted 404 traffic stops and 428 enforcement actions, including charges and warnings. While enforcement was an important part of the campaign, the primary goal was education, awareness, and helping motorists adjust to increased traffic, new school schedules, and changing traffic patterns that accompany the start of a new school year.
“Although the campaign has concluded, the responsibility to keep our children and school communities safe continues,” said the sheriff’s department in a public service announcement on Wednesday. “Slow down, stay alert, follow posted traffic laws, and remember that school zones require everyone’s attention.
“Working together, we can keep Moore County’s school zones safe, not just at the start of the school year, but all year long.
“As we wrap up Operation Safe Start, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Highway Patrol would like to thank the motorists, families, students, and school staff who helped make this effort a success.”
