The operators of the box truck were found to be Scott McCaffrey and Tambra Clift, both of Weslaco, Texas.

“The investigation discovered a total of 10 dogs had died because of the suspects’ negligence,” said Fields.

Subsequently, investigators arrested McCaffrey, 48, and Tambra Clift, 50, and charged them with 10 counts of felony cruelty to animals.

Two of the deceased dogs have been sent to N.C. State Lab for a necropsy to determine the cause of death.
