Robbins Fire & Rescue try to fill financial shortfall

With the cancelation of the 65th annual Farmers Day Festival in Robbins due to COVID-19, Robbins Fire and Rescue find themselves short on their equipment budget.

“We put all the fundraising into one event a year, and this was it,” said Robbins Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Jarius Garner.

Garner is also the Farmers Day committee chairman.

Former Volunteer Firefighter Dale Sanders said, “Most people think this is just a festival, but it’s more than that. Proceeds go to help buy equipment and turnout gear. Volunteer firefighters need things to keep them safe and help you in a time of need. As I was a fireman for many years, I know how important this is to Robbins Fire and Rescue.”

Garner says the fundraiser helps taxpayers.

“This helps take a burden off of taxpayers. We don’t have to buy the needed equipment with tax money,” Garner said.

Robbins Fire and Rescue will still be selling their raffle tickets and T-shirts. They can be purchased at the department or at their shirt trailer in the evenings and Saturday morning.

They will hold the drawings Saturday around 1 p.m. at the Robbins Fire Department and will broadcast it on their Facebook page.

Money raffle prizes are $1,000, $500, and $50. The cost of tickets for the raffle is $5 or 5 for $20. T-shirts are priced between $12-$14.

Sanders created a GoFundMe page for the department. “I wanted to do something to help them out,” said Sanders. “Hopefully, people will donate to help them out.” To make a donation, please click here.
