A local man has been arrested for shooting at Moore County Probation Officers Monday afternoon.

James Franklin Comer, 53, from Eagle Springs, was charged by Moore County Sheriff’s  Department with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, communicating threats, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, possession of a firearm by a felon, four counts of felony probation violation, possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance, and resisting a public officer, according to information from the Moore County Detention Center.

There were no injuries involved in the shooting.

The shooting took place at a mobile home off of Spies Road in Robbins around 2:15 p.m. The probation officers from the State Department of Public Safety called for assistance, and multiple law enforcement officers responded to the scene. EMS was called as a precaution, and the EMS units staged at a nearby location in case medical care was required.

The probation officers did have the suspect in custody by the time additional units arrived on the scene to assist. According to Moore County Sheriff Chief Deputy Frank Rodriguez, the Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting.

The Sheriff’s Department will investigate the assault (shooting) by the suspect, and the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) will investigate the use of force by the probation office. This is standard procedure in cases such as this.

Authorities did not release the names of the probation officers.

Comer was taken to the Moore County Detention Center with a $1,333,000 secured bond. According to arrest records, Comer has a February 13th court date.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

This story has been corrected with updated information from the Sheriff’s Office listing the suspect being from Eagle Springs instead of Robbins.
