More than 35 million Americans have chronic kidney disease, and 800,000 have kidney failure.

“Many reside in rural communities such as ours, which are disproportionately affected,” said Matthew Harmody, M.D., retired emergency medicine physician, kidney donor and co-facilitator of the Sandhills Chronic Kidney Disease Support Group.

The Sandhills Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Support Group is being established to assist individuals and families living with chronic kidney disease with non-medical, peer-to-peer mentorship, navigation and resources.

The group welcomes anyone affected by chronic kidney disease, including those that have kidney disease, are on dialysis, a kidney transplant recipient, a kidney donor or family member or others affected by kidney disease.

The first meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 8, at 5:30 p.m. in the Shadowlawn Room of the Clara McClean House on the campus of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.  The address is 20 FirstVillage Drive, Pinehurst, NC 28374.  Future meetings will be held on the first Thursday of each month at the same time and location.  If you have any questions, contact either Kathy at [email protected] or Angela at [email protected].
