A Seagrove man was convicted Thursday for shooting a man in 2017.

Justin Edward Chriscoe, 37,  testified he shot Matthew Munz on Sept. 10, 2017 in self defense, but a Moore County Jury found him guilty to felony discharge a weapon into occupied property and assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, announced a news release from Moore County District Attorney’s Office.

“Prior to the shooting, Chriscoe and Munz had been arguing via text messages,” said the news release. “Munz drove to Chriscoe’s neighborhood to confront Chriscoe. Chriscoe pulled up in his truck. Chriscoe told Munz to get out of his truck. Munz was unarmed. As Munz was getting out of his truck, Chriscoe fired at him with a .45 pistol approximately 5-6 times. Munz was hit three times. Munz was airlifted to UNC Chapel Hill Medical Center for emergency treatment.”

Chriscoe received two active sentences of 29-47 months each in the Department of Corrections.
