Sheriff warns of scam circulating the county

Governor Roy Cooper issued a stay-at-home order for North Carolina to slow the spread of COVID-19. The order begins 5 p.m. Monday.

The order states North Carolinians to remain in their homes except for performing essential work and essential activities such as taking care of others, obtaining necessary supplies, and for health and safety purposes.

Currently, there are five cases in Moore County. Statewide there are 763 cases across 60 counties. There are three confirmed deaths in North Carolina.

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields released a statement regarding law enforcement verification.

“I want you to know that you are free to travel for essential activities as defined by the Governor’s order,” said Fields.  “The needs of you and your family still remain a top priority.  If you travel for work purposes, and you feel the need to have documentation, you need to get that from your employer.”

Fields said the public’s compliance with the order is extremely important.

He is encouraging residents to wash their hands and practice social distancing.

“These are tough times but we’re going to get through this…together,” said Fields. “I’m extremely proud of how the fine people of Moore County have come together to battle this crisis.  Things will get better.  Let’s continue to do our individual best.”
