A driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after crashing into a power pole Saturday afternoon. The single-vehicle crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on U.S. 15-501, south of Stage Road and just north of Carthage town limits.
A man driving a GMC Envoy toward Carthage lost control in a curve, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway on the right, crash into a power pole, and roll over onto the driver’s side. The vehicle stopped short just a few feet from a mobile home.
The man was able to get out of the vehicle himself and was checked by EMS before being transported to Moore Regional Hospital.
The force of the impact split a power pole in half. Duke Energy responded to the scene to evaluate the damage, and it is unclear if any outages have been reported at this time.Â

The force of the impact caused the pole to split vertically.
One lane of U.S. 15-501 was closed while crews worked the scene.
The N.C. Highway Patrol investigated and told Sandhills Sentinel the driver was cited for failure to maintain lane.
Responding units were Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, N.C. Highway Patrol and Duke Energy.
