Village mourns the loss of councilmember Jane Hogeman

The Pinehurst Village Council announced the passing of councilmember Jane Hogeman who died on July 19.

Hogeman began her service on the Village Council in 2019 and had recently announced her intention not to run for re-election this fall. She worked tirelessly for the Village she loved and was a very active and inquisitive member of the council.

“Councilwoman Jane Hogeman passed away surrounded by her family after a brief illness,” said Mayor John Strickland. “I am sure each of us will be reflecting on the value that Jane brought to the Council during the past four years, as well as her friendship.”

Hogeman was born in Hartford, Connecticut. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1972 with a B.A. in the History of Art and from the University of Michigan Law School, cum laude, in 1976. She is survived by her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, sister, and brother-in-law.

She retired to Pinehurst in 2015 after a successful career in private practice law. Her practice centered on municipal regulation, including appearances before zoning, environmental, historic district, and architectural review bodies.

Hogeman was one of a four-member committee established by the Pinewild Property Owners’ Association Board (POAA) to research ways to better integrate the Village’s commercial zones with residential areas. Until being elected to the Village Council, she chaired a committee formed by the PPOA to monitor the development of Hwy. 211 as a gateway corridor.

While serving on Village Council, she was especially involved with the Village’s Beautification and Neighborhood Advisory committees, as well as with Pinehurst Business Partners, the Tri-Cities Work Group, and Moore County issues and policies that affect Pinehurst.

“We will remember Jane Hogeman for her dedication, commitment, and character,” said the Village of Pinehurst in a news release. “Please keep her family in your prayers during this very difficult and unanticipated period of time. The family has requested respect for their privacy.”
