A woman and child were airlifted after their vehicle struck a tree in Aberdeen on Wednesday morning. Shortly after 9:30 a.m., first responders were alerted to a single-vehicle crash on Roseland Road involving a car that had veered from the road and struck a tree head-on.
The wreck resulted in both occupants of the vehicle, an adult female and a child, needing to be airlifted for treatment of traumatic injuries.
According to initial radio traffic, the pediatric patient was taken first via ambulance to a landing zone established at McNeill Field off of nearby Sandpit Road. The child was then immediately airlifted for further treatment at an area trauma center.
The adult female occupant was treated on-scene while waiting for a second ambulance to arrive. After she was evaluated, first responders requested additional air care to transport her as well. She was then taken to the landing zone and airlifted over an hour after the crash.
Further details on the cause of the crash or contributing factors were not disclosed at this time.
The vehicle had been traveling West on Roseland Road at the time of the crash. The front end of the vehicle took the brunt of the impact, sustaining heavy damage and deployed airbags as a result.
Both lanes of traffic on Roseland Road were completely stopped for over 30 minutes until one lane could safely be reopened.
