Carthage homicide suspect captured

A man is behind bars without bond accused of murdering a Southern Pines man, according to a statement from Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields.

Authorities were searching for a suspect in the homicide case since Friday morning when they found William Earl Jones Wright, Jr. 32, unresponsive lying beside a house in the 100 block of Merritt Drive outside of Carthage. Wright died at the scene from injuries he sustained from a shooting.

Moore County Sheriff Detectives arrested Elijah Frederick, 22, of Carthage, on Wednesday and charged him with murder, possession with the intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana, and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia.

The suspect has a Nov. 25 court date and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
