Family arrested in connection of attempted murder of infant

An Aberdeen family was arrested on Aug. 11, and all three family members are facing felony charges.

Aberdeen Police Chief Carl Colasacco said the department has been working on the case since May 22 when an infant with multiple life-threatening injuries from physical abuse was admitted to FirstHealth Hospital.  At this time, it is unknown if the infant will survive.

Latajane Harrington, 24, is under a $1 million secured bond for attempted first-degree murder and felony child abuse. She is the mother of the infant still being treated at the hospital after being admitted nearly three months ago.

Colasacco said the possible dates of the injuries have a start date of April 16 and an end date of May 19.

Paul Harrington, 45, and Shemeka Harrington, 43, are the parents of Latajane Harrington. The two parents are each charged with negligent child abuse and obstruction of justice. They are each under a $100,000 secured bond.

The Harrington trio and the infant live at the same home on Meadowfield Circle.

The mother and grandparents are in the Moore County Detention Center awaiting court on Aug. 18 and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This is an ongoing investigation.
