Authorities were dispatched to a fire in Vass Monday night.
The call came in as a structure fire; however, when firefighters arrived on the scene, they quickly realized it was a large piece of tree handling equipment that was on fire and not a building.
Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue, Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, and Whispering Pines Fire and Rescue accessed Ingram Woodyards on U.S. Highway 1 at approximately 9 pm, and they were able to extinguish the blaze fairly quickly before the fire was able to spread to other equipment and logs in the lumber yard.
Even though the area was still wet from Hurricane Irma, the fire still managed to start, and it is unclear how the blaze ignited.
The fire is currently under investigation.
