Obituary for Christopher Paul Burns of Vass

Christopher “Chris” Paul Burns, age 56, of Vass, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025.

Christopher Paul Burns was born on August 9, 1968, to Paul and Catherine “Katy” Burns. He graduated from Union Pines High School and UNC Chapel Hill. He grew up in Vass, a town he loved as well as the people. Growing up he spent a lot of good times with his cousins and grandparents on a farm in Carthage. He had many stories that he shared picking vegetables to sell and riding with his grandpa June along with his cousins. His grandma Louise always made sure he had plenty to eat. His grandmother Ruth adored him. She was always giving him advice regarding life. Chris loved his family, and they loved him. In his mental illness, which he struggled with since age 23, he always had the support of family and friends. He was a generous, gentle, kind and compassionate person. He loved animals and music, especially the Rolling Stones. There will always be a void in our life. We would like to thank our family, friends and the Vass community for the support given to Chris and us through the years. Rest in peace our special Chris.

Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, June and Louise McCaskill; step grandfather R.A. “Bud” Evans and grandmother, Ruth McNeill Evans and grandfather, Paul Muse Burns.

He is survived by his parents, Paul and Catherine “Katy” Burns; sister, Leslie Holder; nephew, Evan Roberts; niece, Charlotte Holder; great nieces, Scarlett White and Georgia Waters; wife, Kelly Shaw.

A Celebration of Life with casual dress will be held at Chris’ home at 550 Main Street, Vass, NC on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 3:00PM with Pastor Larry Vacek officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date at their Johnson Grove Cemetery family plot.
