Obituary Dolores Myers

Dolores (Lori) Myers passed away in the comfort of her home at St Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines, NC, on July 23.

Dolores lived a wonderful, full life. She was a friend to all, neighbors and strangers alike. Her door was always open. Dolores was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and beloved wife to the late Rex Myers. Dolores and Rex had many adventures together, getting to see much of the country on road trips, all the way from North Carolina to California, to visit their grandchildren and search for the best place to retire. They landed in the Village of Whispering Pines where they happily made many new friends. Dolores was, at first, a reluctant golfer, ultimately enjoying many years of golf and friendships at the Whispering Pines Golf Club.

After the passing of the love of her life – Rex, Dolores made another transition with some trepidation, this time to St. Joseph of the Pines. Here she was welcomed with open arms and developed another group of new friends, while maintaining her friendships from the Village. Dolores religiously participated in weekly bridge and gin rummy – she was a force to be reckoned with in a card game. She had a sharp mind and deep curiosity for life, keeping up on current events and deftly completing crossword puzzles on weekends.  Dolores was especially fond of becoming a great grandmother – “Grandma Lori” cherished visits and phone calls with her grandchildren and great grandchildren above all, and was not shy to express her pride and joy for them.

She is survived by her daughters – Susan, Barbara, Nora and Suzanne, grandchildren – Lauren, Billy Mark, Alexandra, Elizabeth and Taylor, and great granddaughters – Ava, Hannah and Alexandra Her family are particularly grateful to her dear and cherished friends who cared for her in many ways over the years, and all the kind and loving staff at Pine Knolls and St Joseph Home Care. Heartfelt thanks to the team at First Health Hospice, all of whom have “angel wings”. She will be deeply missed but always loved in the hearts of her family and friends, and by all those who were lucky to be graced by her good spirit on this earth.

A celebration of her life will be planned once gatherings can be safely held.
