On Sunday, September 9, 2018, Jack DeSoto Damron of the Pinewild community in Pinehurst, North Carolina passed away peacefully at FirstHealth Hospice House surrounded by his family.

Jack was born in 1938 in Maryville, Tennessee. He was the only child of Louise Goddard Damron and Jack Woodrow Damron.

Jack was a 1956 graduate of Maryville High School. He received his accounting degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1960. After graduation, he served six months in active duty and six years in the reserves with the U.S. Army. In April 1965, Jack met the love of his life, Linda Jean Vansant, on a blind date. They were married in September of that same year.

A devoted Tennessee Volunteers fan, Jack rarely missed a game. With the help of his father, Jack was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America. He followed his parent’s footsteps to Alcoa, Inc., where he spent his entire career. Whether he was playing golf, working in the yard, planting many trees, few loved the outdoors as much as Jack.

Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Linda and their children, Jami (Dan) Nelson, and Jill (Jim) Lenox. Jack will be fondly remembered by his five grandchildren Trevor Nelson, Griffin Nelson, Maeve Lenox, Maggie Lenox and Evie Lenox. He leaves behind a close group of lifelong friends that he considered family. A small, private celebration of his life will be held in Pinehurst at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack Damron’s memory may be made to FirstHealth Hospice in Pinehurst, North Carolina at https://www.firsthelath.org/foundation-of-firsthealth/make-a-donation.
