Obituary for John Allen Tulloch

John Allen Tulloch, age 68, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at Novant Health. He was born on February 23, 1955, to parents John Bailey Tulloch and Hattie Ham Tulloch.

For four decades, from 1978 to 2018, John dedicated his professional life as a licensed optician in North Carolina. Renowned as the finest in Wilmington, he became an eyeglasses entrepreneur, earning a reputation for his unparalleled skill in resolving any optical challenge. A true “fixer” at heart, John’s talents extended beyond eyewear, as he could mend virtually anything mechanical. His expertise even stretched to rebuilding his Toyota truck engine, and he had an uncanny knack for detecting even the subtlest automotive irregularities.

John’s compassion and unwavering loyalty were evident in his devotion to his wife, daughters, and extended family. His unshakable faith in Jesus Christ illuminated every aspect of his life, shining through to his final moments on Earth. John was a proud member of his long-time church, Anchor Baptist. Nature and animals held a special place in his heart, with his feline companions holding a particularly cherished spot.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hattie Tulloch, as well as his brothers, Dr. Bill Tulloch and Berkley Tulloch.

John is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Doris Tulloch, his daughters, Rebecca Tulloch and Sarah Tulloch, and his kitties, Ethel, Lucy, and Ricky. He took immense pride in being known as “Uncle Johnny” by his numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom hold cherished memories of him.
