Lee Andrew Clark, Jr. died April 21, 2023 in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
He was born May 27, 1930 in Everetts, N.C. He graduated from Robersonville High School in Robersonville, N.C in 1948. He played football and baseball in high school. He attended UNC, Chapel Hill, majoring in Chemistry. He graduated from UNC in 1952, Phi Beta Kappa. He was a member of the Pi Kapa Alpha social fraternity. He also attended medical school at UNC, Chapel Hill. In medical school he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He was President of his medical school class, the class of 1956.
He served as a Captain and Medical Officer in the U.S. Air Force. He then completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia.
A board-certified Ophthalmologist, he practiced Ophthalmology in Wilson, N.C. from 1962 until 2018. He served as Wilson County’s representative to the North Carolina Medical Society and as President of the Wilson County Medical Society. He chaired the Ophthalmological section of the North Carolina Medial Society. He served on the North Carolina Governor’s Advisory Council on Comprehensive Health Planning. He also served on the admissions board of UNC’s medical school.
He is survived by his wife, Harriett Clark, his sons Harry Clark (Karen), Hollins Clark (Adele), and Drew Clark (Caroline). He is also survived by ten grandchildren, by his sister Ellen Woodard, and by his brothers Robert Clark and Daniel Clark.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lee Andrew Clark, Sr. and Essie Clark, by his sisters Grace Hollar and Florine Everett, and by his brother William Clark.
He was loved by family, patients, colleagues, and many friends. A commemoration gathering will be held in Wilson, N.C. on Saturday, June 24, 2023. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to United Way of Wilson County, N.C.
