Margaret “Marge” L. Cool, 66, of Cameron, passed away at her home on Friday, March 30th. 

A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, April 5th, at 7:00 P.M. at the Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Southern Pines. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 5:00 P.M.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y. on April 20, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Hazel (Thurston) Smith. Marge was raised in Bliss, N.Y. As a young adult, she owned and operated a seasonal produce stand while raising a family. In 1987 Marge moved to the Sandhills and attended Central Carolina University, where she earned her Legal Assistant Certification. For many years, she worked as a Paralegal/Legal Assistant for The Law Firm of Stephan Lapping in Carthage. For the last five years, she processed real estate closings for the Mortgage Dept. for First Bank in Southern Pines until her illness forced her retirement. She loved gardening and working in the yard. She also loved dogs and raised Great Pyrenees for many years and residents of local nursing homes enjoyed the visits of Marge and her therapy dog.

In addition to her parents, Marge was predecessed by her husband, Joseph “Joe” Cool and her brothers David, Jerome and Douglas Smith. She is survived by two children, Sherry Bennion of Aberdeen and Ronald (Songi) Bennion of West End and her grandchildren, Amanda Bosworth, and Rylan and Adelyn Bennion, and a sister Carol Ranke, of New York.
