Raymond G. MacKay, Jr., 84, of Seven Lakes passed away peacefully on April 4, 2020 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.

Raymond was born April 15, 1935 in New Haven, CT to the late Raymond G. MacKay, Sr., and the late Violet Bechtel MacKay.   His family moved to the Albany, NY area a few years later.  He was a 1953 Graduate of Bethlehem Central High School in Delmar, NY.  He was a 1957 Graduate of Virginia Military Institute and later graduated from RPI with a master’s degree in Civil Engineering.  He met and married Martha J. Agnor while in Virginia.  He was active in the New York State Army National Guard until his retirement from the military in 1987, where he retired with the rank of Colonel.   Raymond also retired as the Superintendent of Maintenance with the New York State Thruway in 1995.  He was very active in the Seven Lakes community since moving there is 1998, serving on several boards and committees.  He also enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Martha A. MacKay; son James B. MacKay of Westerlo, NY; daughter Deborah J. MacKay of Lexington, KY; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Pamela M. Higby and her husband Paul.   

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations in memory of Raymond to be made to The Chapel In the Pines, 581 Seven Lakes Drive, West End, NC 27376.
