O’Neal welcomes new director of development

The O’Neal School recently named Dena Rae Hancock as its new director of development. Hancock brings more than 25 years of experience in fundraising, advancement, and nonprofit leadership across higher education, charitable organizations, and philanthropic institutions. She is recognized for building strong development programs, leading major fundraising initiatives, and fostering lasting relationships with donors, alumni, trustees, and community partners.

“We are excited to welcome Dena Rae Hancock to The O’Neal School,” said Interim Head of School Steve Lisk in a press release. “Her depth of experience and strategic approach to advancement will be instrumental as we continue to strengthen our culture of philanthropy and advance the mission of our school.”

Hancock most recently served as senior director of the Triangle Chapter of Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) in Raleigh, where she led leadership giving, corporate partnerships, and fundraising events. Prior to that role, she served as chief executive officer and senior philanthropy officer of the Golisano Children’s Museum in Naples, Florida, overseeing multimillion-dollar operations and expanding donor engagement efforts.

Her previous experience includes serving as vice president of institutional advancement at Marian University in Indianapolis, senior campaign director for the Indianapolis Zoological Society, and senior vice president of wealth and philanthropy services at The Naples Trust Company, where she advised individuals and families on philanthropic strategy and legacy planning.

Hancock is also an active volunteer leader. She serves as director of the Indiana University Foundation and chair of its Advancement Committee. Formerly, she has served as president of the IU Varsity Club National Board of Directors and chair of the Women’s Philanthropic Leadership Council Campaign. At The O’Neal School, Hancock will lead all development initiatives, including major gifts, annual and planned giving, donor stewardship, and alumni engagement.
