Residents left without power after car crashes into pole

A few residents reported power outages after a Jeep struck a power pole on U.S. Highway 1 in Aberdeen. The accident occurred near First Baptist Church at 2:40 p.m. on Sunday.

The driver of the Jeep ran off the right-hand side of the road and struck a power pole, snapping it into two pieces.

The impact left the Jeep in the road with extensive front-end damage. The driver of the Jeep was not transported to the hospital.

Traffic was backed up due to closed lanes. Duke Energy Progress was called to replace the pole.

Aberdeen Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Responding to the scene were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Aberdeen Police Department, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
