Robbins’ residents recently received 75 children’s bicycle helmets.

The bike helmets were from a grant that the town received from North Carolina Department of Transportation, according to a news release from the Town of Robbins.

The Town of Robbins in coordination with the Robbins Area Library, Robbins Police Department, Just Save, and Northern Moore Family Resource Center gave away bicycle helmets.

The program was held at Elise Middle School’s gymnasium. Derek Cockman, an avid cyclist, gave a presentation about bicycle and helmet safety. Crystal Roberts from First Health Safe Kids fitted each helmet for the child.

Cockman was excited about the attention cycling has received in Robbins,

“This is really great that Robbins is able to do all of this to encourage the sport of cycling.” Chief Rob Tew from Robbins Police Department was encouraged about the event, “This is an excellent opportunity for the youth in our community”

The news release said there are helmets still available at the Robbins Area Library.
