Sheriff warns of scam circulating the county

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields sent out a news alert on Monday, Dec. 20 about a phone scam circulating around the county.

“We have been alerted that Moore County residents are being contacted by a person identifying himself to be a deputy with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office and demanding payment to avoid their arrest warrants,” said Fields.

Anytime someone calls identifying themselves as part of law enforcement asking for money in lieu of arrest, citizens should hang up because Fields said it’s a scam.
