A man is in custody after an incident inside Pinehurst No. 6 neighborhood Monday. Police were dispatched to Juniper Creek Boulevard around 3 p.m. for a report of a shooting.

The man was having a mental health crisis resulting in shots being fired, according to Interim Pinehurst Police Chief Glen Webb.

He was injured from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound in the leg. There were no other injuries involved. Neighbors said they heard three gunshots. Webb said law enforcement did not fire their weapons when they arrived on the scene.

The man is known to the family who lives at the house which was cordoned off with police tape. 

Webb thanked the Moore County Sheriff’s Department for its quick response and apprehension of the man.
