The Town of Southern Pines will host a discussion on efforts to address the shortage of “missing middle” housing options for families and the growing workforce in our area. The discussion will take place at the E.S. Douglass Community Center on Thursday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This discussion is open to all members of the public.
Town Planners have begun work alongside a group of local housing stakeholders, developers, and other experts to improve housing options in Southern Pines through local regulatory reforms and initiatives.
The Southern Pines Town Council has identified four goals within the housing initiative:
*Catalyze 30 new housing units for those earning between 80-120% of the median household income
*Protect existing affordable housing units
*Expand flexibility and incentivize new infill solutions
*Foster housing expansion in ways that conform to the character of our communities and neighborhoods.
The May 1 Town Talk aims to solicit feedback from the public to better aid and inform project work and provide the public with information on the staff’s progress to date.
