Vass, Taylortown water projects begin

The Moore County Water and Sewer Task Force convened on June 14 and received updates from Moore County Public Works staff on several projects.

The Task Force, comprised of Moore County commissioners Kurt Cook and Nick Picerno, was informed that the public might notice work beginning on a couple of these projects, Vass Sewer Phase 2 and an emergency interconnection for the Town of Taylortown, as early as July.

There are four construction contracts for the Vass sewer system expansion: three pipeline contracts and a pump station contract. The materials are beginning to be delivered to the job site, and on-site construction in some parts of the town will soon begin. A map showing the proposed line work follows:

Regarding the emergency interconnection for the Town of Taylortown, Moore County is restoring the water main that extends from Taylortown to the Pinehurst water system. The Town of Taylortown recently completed the construction of an emergency bypass line to receive water from Moore County in case of an emergency in town.

It was discovered at start-up that the line which extended from the town to the Moore County system was damaged and inoperable. The bidding for the proposed line replacement is complete, and construction is set to begin soon.
