Carthage seeks citizen input on Christmas parade

Carthage has plans for a new 16” forced main to prevent untreated wastewater discharges.

A forced main that Public Works Director Allen Smith said “has given us trouble in the past” had to have emergency repairs on Sept. 4 at 5:45 p.m. The division had the repairs completed and the flow off within 15 minutes.

The estimated 6,800 gallons spilled along N.C. Hwy. 22 and was discharged into Nick’s Creek in the Cape Fear River Basin.

By 7:45 p.m. Sept. 4, service was returned to normal and sanitizing efforts completed.

“By 2023, that main will just be a bad memory,” Smith said.
