West Pine Middle teacher arrested

A West Pine Middle School teacher was arrested Wednesday on charges of two counts of felony taking indecent liberties with a student and two counts of sexual battery.

According to a news release from Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields, Albert Lee Jr., 64, of West End, was placed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $175,000 secured bond.

“On July 13, 2023, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual assault on a minor by a Moore County Schools teacher,” said Fields. “Evidence obtained during the investigation revealed ongoing personal communications between the adult and minor over a period of several months.”

According to information listed on the Moore County Detention Center’s website, the alleged offense date for the felony taking indecent liberties with a student charges was listed as Dec. 28, 2022. The sexual battery charges have an alleged offense date of July 19.

“Mr. Lee has worked at Moore County Schools for almost 24 years and was suspended with pay following his arrest, pending further investigation,” said the school district in a press release. “As always, safety is a top priority for Moore County Schools, and we will continue to cooperate with the on-going investigation.”

Lee is due in court on Aug. 16 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
