Barn destroyed in High Falls fire

A barn was destroyed in High Falls Thursday evening.

The 911 call came in around 7:30 p.m. from a juvenile saying that a barn was on fire in the 900 block of Caviness Town Road off George P. Road, and two unknown male subjects were on the property, according to Director of Moore County Public Safety Bryan Phillips.

Flames and smoke could be seen from the barn from two miles away. When the first units arrived on scene, the barn was fully involved with flames.

Due to the long, narrow driveway, a limited amount of fire trucks were able to enter the property, and a water point was set up at the end of the driveway.

The barn is used to store hay, and its contents were a complete loss. Lost in the fire were a tractor and other various farm equipment, according to High Falls fire chief. High Falls Fire and Rescue Department was on scene approximately until midnight.

The fire is under investigation by the Moore County Fire Marshal and the state fire marshal.

Responding to the scene were High Falls Fire and Rescue, Robbins Fire and Rescue, Westmoore Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Moore County Fire Marshal, Office of the State Fire Marshal, Bennett Fire and Rescue (Chatham County) and Coleridge-Erect Fire and Rescue (Randolph County).

Friday morning around 9:30 a.m., property owners called in a rekindling of the fire. High Falls Fire and Rescue responded and requested assistance from Robbins Fire and Rescue and N.C. Forestry Service. Due to high winds, a plow was brought in.
