Sheriff clarifies mask mandate

Scammers disguised as the Moore County Sheriff’s Office are targeting Moore County residents in a ploy to get financial information.

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced in a Friday news release residents are being contacted for failing to appear for jury duty. They are instructed to call 910-722-9011 for further information. When calling the number, financial information is requested to avoid arrest.

“Under no circumstance would a member of the sheriff’s office contact any Moore County resident and request payment in lieu of arrest,” said the release.

If you have any questions, please contact the sheriff’s office at 910-947-2931.
