Driver injured after minivan strikes tree in Aberdeen

An Aberdeen driver avoided serious injury Friday night when her minivan crashed into a tree. The crash happened at the intersection of Bethesda Avenue and Blue Street shortly after 8 p.m.

According to authorities on scene, the driver was traveling on Bethesda Avenue toward downtown Aberdeen when she failed to navigate a sharp curve, crossed the front lawn of a nearby property, and slammed into a large tree near a house. Authorities said if the vehicle had veered only a few feet to the side, she would have crashed into the home.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage from the impact, along with deployed airbags and shattered windows.

When law enforcement arrived, the driver was already out of the vehicle. She was later transported by EMS for evaluation.

Aberdeen Police are investigating, and no further details were released on scene.

Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and Aberdeen Police responded to the scene.
