A fire destroyed a house early Thursday morning leaving a family without a home. The blaze broke out around 7:30 a.m. on Sandy Oaks Road about a mile outside of Vass.
When emergency units were dispatched, the caller advised there was a possible entrapment. Just before fire units arrived, the call came back to dispatch that everyone was out of the residence. When units arrived on scene, they found a mobile home with heavy flames and smoke showing with several small explosions.
The family of four was evaluated on the scene but cleared. The Red Cross was called to assist the family.
Firefighters encountered an issue with the closest fire hydrant not working. Crews quickly responded calling for a tanker out of Carthage to the scene. Firefighters were able to quickly set up a water haul operation with drop tanks to provide water to the flames.
They called Moore County Public Works to fix the hydrant. Once it was repaired, they stopped water haul operations and were able to use the hydrant.
Firefighters fought the fire in the cold rain for nearly two hours. The home was completely destroyed.
The fire is being investigated by the Moore County Fire Marshal.
