Fire destroys house in Robbins

A house fire in Robbins shut down a major road and reduced a structure to a shell on Saturday afternoon.

The call came in just before 5:30 p.m. for a house fire on N.C. Highway 705 at the intersection of Noah Road, just south of the Robbins crossroads at N.C. Highway 24-27.

Shortly after the initial call, a Foxfire Police Department officer who was already traveling on N.C. Highway 705 to assist Robbins police with a traffic stop came upon the fire. The officer reported to dispatch that the home was fully engulfed in flames and that at least one propane tank had exploded.

It was initially thought that there was a life hazard due to no one being able to make contact with the resident, but he was located a short time later and was not home at the time.

According to officials on the scene, the fire appeared to have started in the front corner of the house. Although the residence had no power, the exact cause remains under investigation.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Department shut down N.C. Highway 705 due to fire trucks and emergency vehicles blocking the roadway.

A plow from the N.C. Forest Service was brought in as a precaution, and a fire line was plowed around the property due to high fire danger from dry conditions.

The Moore County fire marshal was on the scene and is investigating.
