Fire devours shed

A fire destroyed a large storage shed off Highway 73 in Jackson Springs on Sunday evening. Fire crews from all over the county responded, and the highway was shut down for several hours while crews put out the blaze.

The call came in around 5:30 p.m., and a large smoke column could be seen for miles. Firefighters from West End Fire Department arrived to heavy flames in the structure. It took crews several hours to extinguish the fire.

The building was made of wood and had a metal roof. Several materials inside the building were highly flammable, including several propane tanks.

Several miles of Highway 73 was closed between Hotel Street in Jackson Springs and Gateway Drive in West End, so fire crews could resource water from a nearby pond.

No one was injured. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

Responding to the scene were West End Fire Department, Eagle Springs Fire Department, Seven Lakes Fire Department , Pinehurst Fire Department, Eastwood Fire Department, Pinebluff Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety, Moore County Sherriff’s Department, and N.C. Forestry Service. Robbins Fire Department was put on standby for West End coverage.
