Pinecrest staff recognized for saving student's life

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) recently announced that three staff members of Pinecrest High School are the recipients of its LifeSaver Citation and LifeSaver Certificate.

The LifeSaver Citation was created to recognize licensed athletic trainers and others in the field of emergency and sports medicine who demonstrate excellence and preparedness during the most crucial moments of an emergency, said NCHSAA in a press release. These awards will be presented during the Athletic Trainer Session at the NC Coaches Clinic in Greensboro on July 19.

The actions of these individuals have literally saved lives during the course of their duties. This year’s LifeSaver Citations go to Head Athletic Trainer at Pinecrest, Frank Sanchez, and Assistant Athletic Trainer, Morgan Krout.

Sanchez and Krout were instrumental in providing care to save the life of Juliette Suh, a runner from Jack Britt, who collapsed near the end of a cross-country race. Pinecrest Coach Bob Curtin will receive a LifeSaver Certificate to recognize his contributions to their efforts.

Sanchez and Krout were the first ones on the scene when Suh collapsed just yards from the finish line at an early season cross-country meet in Moore County. Sanchez and Krout went to work, performing CPR and applying an AED, activating the EMS system and fortunately, thanks to their preparedness and action, Suh has made a full recovery and is still with us today.
