North Moore, Pinecrest students break out the paint

There is nothing like a car show in the southeast featuring premier and pristine vehicles from years gone by. Recently, students from Pinecrest High School and North Moore High School rolled up their sleeves at the Sandhills Community College (SCC) in the automotive department’s paint bays to get to work on a car that will be featured at an upcoming car show in Pinehurst on Saturday, April 19.

“It was great to have the students here today to get hands on experience with our equipment and sprayers to work on the car,” said Brian Garner, department chair for Transportation/Collision Instructor, in a press release. “What’s really cool is that several of the students who visited are already enrolled to attend the college starting this fall in our program. We are super excited to have them interested in our growing program and high demand jobs that turn into careers.”

Quint Dunlap, an SCC alumnus and high school instructor, regularly brings his students to campus to collaborate with SCC’s automotive and collision repair programs, providing them with valuable hands-on experience.

“Having the chance to use the equipment and work alongside college students and faculty is such a great experience for our students,” said Dunlap. “It’s amazing to have access to an entire auto shop and collision repair at Sandhills Community College for our students and future generations of talent.”

The car they are painting, in a fun style and design, was donated to the program for the students to work on. The car they are painting will be on display at the SCC Car Show on Saturday, April 19. Students from the high school programs, current SCC students, and community car culturalists will be in attendance. The show is free to spectators with plenty of parking. Auto shop tours at Sandhills Community College during the show will be available at Sirotek Hall.

Show flyer and registration form for entry are available at http://www.corvettesofsandhills.com.

All proceeds from the show go to Sandhills Collision & Refinishing Tech School.
