Kathryn “Kit” Kirby, 74, of Foxfire and formerly New York, passed peacefully at the FirstHealth Hospice House on Friday, Feb. 7th.

Born in Freeport, NY, August 17, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Audrey (Boller) Cunningham.  Kit was raised on Long Island and after her high school graduation, she attend SUNY Oneonta and Adelphi University.  During the summers, she worked at a concession stand at Jones Beach, where she met Robert “Bob” Kirby.  The two married on November 19, 1966.  The couple would move to Panama and California before returning to New York.  Kit worked as Bank Teller and Manager for many years before moving to Foxfire in 2007.  After her retirement from banking, she got a job working for Belk and later for Kohl’s Department Stores. Kit was known for her joyful laugh and beautiful smile.

Kit was the loving wife of Robert “Bob” Kirby.  She was the mother of Karen Kirby, Jill Supinsky, (Gregg), and Mary O’Malley, (Derek).  She is survived by her 5 grandchildren:  Jack and Grace Supinsky, and Declan, Ryan and Molly O’Malley.  Kit was the sister of John, Steven, Gary, Joel and Brian Cunningham and the late Glenn Cunningham.

A visitation was held at the Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst, Sunday, February 9th. Additional services will be held in New York later in the week. Kit will be laid to rest in the Long Island National Cemetery.
