Obituary for Larry Delyn Fulcher

Larry Delyn Fulcher, 74, passed away, Saturday, December 16, 2023, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital.

Larry was born in Bassett, VA to Kenneth & Lula Fulcher on August 8, 1949.  He was a graduate of John D Bassett High School in 1967 and he attended Christopher Newport School of Radiologic Technology in Newport News, VA, where he studied to be a Radiologic Technician.  He also went on to complete courses at the Hospital Management Institute at the School of Business Management at UNC Chapel Hill.

Larry worked at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro, NC as a technician and Manager for almost eight years before spending the next twenty-one years as the Director of Imaging at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital of the Carolinas in Pinehurst NC.  He then moved into several roles in Consulting and Sales within the Radiology community spanning across the entire east coast.  He was active in the American Healthcare Radiology Administrators where he served as a member of the National Board of Directors.  Larry received Fellow status and served almost every executive position of the Southern Region of the association.  After his career in Radiology, Larry owned and operated Pinehurst Hardware.

Larry served on many boards and councils throughout the sandhills.  For over 10 years he was a very active volunteer firefighter and EMT-D with West End Fire and Rescue.  After his active duty, he went on to serve the board for another 10 years.  Later, Larry became a dedicated and loving caregiver to his mother Lula in her final years.

Larry had a love of camping and the outdoors.  His sons have many memories of traveling in their VW camper or even on horseback in a wagon train.  More recently, Larry became involved in vintage camping and traveled all over the east coast with his Scotty camper to many events.  He loved storytelling and conversation around a campfire. Dupont Forest was a special place for Larry and his boys for many years.  He also enjoyed supporting his sons in their love of adventure racing or watching a great baseball game (especially if his grandsons were playing!).  Larry was always joking, and he loved sharing book suggestions with his daughters-in-law, showing up unexpectedly to surprise his family and friends, telling stories of the good ol days growing up in Stanleytown with his boys, and driving fast.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Garland Kenneth and Ida Lula Fulcher, a brother Robert Merritt Fulcher and a nephew Lincoln Tyler Darnell.  He is survived by his sons and their families. Daniel Reid Fulcher and wife Leslie, Andrew Blake Fulcher and wife Kristin, and grandchildren Hayden, Reid, William, Levi, and Simeon.  He is also survived by his sister Sandra Shuford.

A graveside service will be held on January 20, 2024, at 11:00 am at West End Cemetery.  A celebration of life will follow at the West End Fire House.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to West End Fire and Rescue, PO Box 596, West End, NC 27376.

Fry and Prickett Funeral Home is honored to serve the Fulcher family.
