Obituary for Mary Ruth York Liles

Mary Ruth York Liles passed peacefully to be with her Lord, Friday, March 29, 2024, at her home with her family near. Mary lived a full life of 81 years. In her youth she was active in sports, playing basketball in school and was even voted Homecoming Queen while attending Hoffman High School. She married her High School sweetheart, Richard Liles, in 1960, and was a devoted wife to him for nearly 60 years until his passing. Mary was very active in her community over the years in various groups including Richmond County Board of Elections, where she volunteered 421 hours at the polls. She enjoyed being part of the Homemakers and Antiques Clubs in Hoffman, and faithfully attending Hoffman Baptist Church and singing in the choir. She and Richard were members of Derby and Seven Lakes Square Dancing Clubs at one time. Over the years she enjoyed sewing, crafting, sharing recipes with friends, and her life on their small farm with her family, raising children, horses, calves and quail. She and Richard could often been seen out and about, eating out at their favorite establishments always running into friends, making it seem like everyone knew them. Mary retired from her job as secretary of the Audio Visual Department at Sandhills Community College, after a long career, in 2002. She loved her family and was most especially proud of her grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Richard, parents, H.I. and Mamie York, and brothers, James Alvin, Hugh, Daniel(Bud), and John York, and sister, Bernice Thompson. She is survived by her son, Allen (Karen), daughter, Dondra Kujawski (Rick), grandchildren, Kacey McLester (Andrew), Michael Liles (Raley), Richard Kujawski (Jacquelyn), Patrick Kujawski (Candice), and great grandchildren, Marley and Maddie McLester, Isla and Jameson Liles, Sophie, Kameron and Jack Kujawski, and her beloved pets, Trooper and Colt.
