Obituary for Millicent Elaine Laudenslager of Carthage

Millicent “Millie” Elaine Laudenslager, age 87, of Carthage, NC, formally of Ocala, FL and Halifax, PA, passed away in First Health Moore Regional Hospital of Pinehurst, NC on 31 January 2022.  She was born Millicent Elaine Gingrich on March 28, 1934, in Harrisburg, PA – the daughter of Claire Newton and Mary Elizabeth (Shott) Gingrich of Colonial Park, PA.  Millicent was the widow of Paul Edward Laudenslager, to whom she was married for 54 years.

Millie was preceded in death by her husband Paul, youngest son Kirby Allen Laudenslager, oldest grandson Steven Perry II Laudenslager, and oldest great-grandson Tyler Laudenslager. She is survived by sons Isaac (wife Pamela) in NC, Cristen (wife Sarah) in PA, Steven in VA, Tracy (wife Lynn) in FL; and daughter Sheila Stull in PA.  Millie has 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  She raised her family in Halifax for 56 years, mostly on South River Road.  Millie was a baby-sitter for 30 years, caring for 147 children.  She and Paul also cared for three foster children.

Millie attended Lower Paxton High School. She was a member of the Citizen’s Band Radio Club and played drums in The Country Western Band.  She attended the Valleys United Church of Christ for many years, where she enjoyed being a member of the choir.  She was an active member of The Patriot Guard Riders of Florida and North Carolina.  She was an auxiliary lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7318 in Southern Pines, NC, and a member of the American Legion Post 382 Ladies Auxiliary in Sanford, NC.  She was a member/officer in the Order of Eastern Star and the Order of Amaranth (Royal Matron), both of Millersburg, PA.  Millie enjoyed camping with her family, crocheting, canning fruits and vegetables from her own “truck patch”.  She was a lifetime Steelers Football fan.  She was a matron at the Dauphin County Prison for two years and a dispatcher for the Halifax Ambulance Association for 12 years.  She was especially proud that her husband, all five sons, and several grandchildren served (are serving) with distinction and honor in the US Military Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, National Guard).

Services to be held mid-February (TBD), 2022, at Hoover-Boyer (Minnich) Funeral Home, Millersburg, PA (with assistance from Boles Funeral Home, Southern Pines, NC) and Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax, PA.
