Obituary Stanley Loferski

Lt Col. S.J. (Jim) Loferski, USMC-ret. left this world peacefully on April 2, 2020 surrounded by his wife Monica of 61 years, his son Andrew, and daughter Claire at FirstHealth Hospice in Pinehurst, NC. He was 92.

Jim left Hudson, PA to serve his country as an enlisted Marine at the age of seventeen. His education continued as a midshipman at the US Naval Academy, graduating in 1951.  His Marine Corps service included WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.  After his military retirement, his career as an electronics engineer took him to New Jersey where he worked for General Public Utilities retiring in 1989.  Then he and Monica moved to their home in Kitty Hawk, NC and eventually to Pinehurst in 2007.

Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed many activities with family and friends. He was an avid golfer. He loved attending Army/Navy football games with his wife and classmates along with appropriate tailgating. He played bridge, cribbage, and as a young officer, he enjoyed playing a good game of poker with his fellow marines. He was a history buff and voracious reader.

As a father, Jim demonstrated what it is to be a good citizen, respectful, loving, and to treat others with fairness. He had an impish grin and a twinkle in his green eyes along with a quiet sense of humor that he shared throughout his life. He contributed to his communities through volunteering and was always thankful for the blessings life provided him. Jim is survived by his wife Monica, Andrew Loferski and wife Kim along with grandchildren A.J., Jake, Kit, Jon, and his daughter Claire Berggren and husband Jack with grandchildren Mathew, Samantha, and Zachary.

The Marine Corps League was very important to Jim.  If you are so inclined, a donation to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation in his memory would be a fond farewell.  Semper Fi Sir.

A funeral mass will be held at a later date at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Pinehurst.
