One airlifted after motorcycle, car collide

A collision involving a motorcyclist and a Ford Edge resulted in one individual being airlifted to a trauma center on Monday afternoon. The crash occurred shortly after 2:40 p.m. at the busy intersection of Morganton Road and Brucewood Road in Southern Pines.

The Ford, positioned near the turning lane on Morganton Road at the time of impact, suffered damage to its front passenger side, while the motorcycle sustained heavy damage to its front end. The direct cause was not given and is still under investigation at this time.

As a result, one person was airlifted from a landing zone established at nearby Memorial Park. Authorities on the scene did not confirm whether the person airlifted was the driver of the motorcycle or a passenger in the Ford.

The ensuing wreckage blocked the intersection for nearly an hour while first responders worked to clear the scene. Rockwell Towing was called in to remove the motorcycle from the scene, and eastbound traffic on Morganton had to be brought down to one lane until the Ford could safely be removed.
