A suspect have been arrested in connection with a shooting in Cameron Saturday afternoon.

George Bernhardt Roderick, Jr., 37, of Fayetteville, was charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflicting serious injury.

The shooting took place around 1 p.m. on Helen Lane off of Atkins Road. Suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, but were apprehended a short time later.

“This was not a random act of violence, as it is believed that all parties involved were of at least minimal acquaintance,” said Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields.

Two people were airlifted to an area trauma center with a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the head and a female suffering a gunshot wound to the neck. One of the victims is in critical condition.

The victims’ identities have not been released.

Roderick has a 2002 felony conviction for conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon in Cumberland County.

“A second suspect is currently detained and charges are pending at this time,” said Sheriff Fields.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Moore County Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip Line at (910) 947-4444 or the Moore County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 947-2931.

Roderick is being held without bond in the Moore County Detention Center. His first court appearance is scheduled for January 23 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
